A wooden coaster featuring Bartholomew's distinctive Half-Inch mapping of Beaumaris and the surrounding area.

What this map covers

Eryri National Park forms part of the wider mapped setting around Beaumaris, with Bangor Mountain also within the view. It also takes in Bangor, Menai Bridge and Llanfaes.

About this map

This artwork is cropped from Sheet 11 · North Wales, 1904, focusing the original cartography around Beaumaris rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.

It is a scale particularly suited to following roads and railways between places while still reading coast, rivers, uplands, and the broader shape of the landscape. At half an inch to the mile (1:126,720), it covers much more ground than the detailed Ordnance Survey county sheets while retaining a strong sense of local geography.

The series is especially recognisable for its layer colouring, with greens across lower ground and browns and paler tones used as elevation rises. Complete coverage of Great Britain was achieved by 1903, and the series became closely associated with touring and cycling in the early twentieth century. This particular source was published in 1904.

The original map was printed at approximately 1:127,000. This artwork is reproduced at approximately 1:100,000, around 1.3× larger, making the original cartography and place names easier to see.

Historic map detail varies with product size and material. Use the listing close-ups as your guide to the exact crop and level of detail.

  • Colours may print slightly warmer because of the base material.
