Beaumaris and its wider landscape shown in Bartholomew's distinctive Half-Inch mapping, reproduced as a mug.

What this map covers

Part of Eryri National Park falls within this map of Beaumaris, along with Bangor Mountain. It also takes in Bangor, Menai Bridge and Llanfairfechan.

About this map

This artwork is cropped from Sheet 11 · North Wales, 1904, focusing the original cartography around Beaumaris rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.

The interest is often in the regional pattern: how a town relates to neighbouring places, transport routes, water, and higher ground. Its 1:126,720 scale, two miles to the inch, sits between detailed local survey mapping and much smaller national maps.

The series is especially recognisable for its layer colouring, with greens across lower ground and browns and paler tones used as elevation rises. The maps were not simple reductions of Ordnance Survey sheets: Bartholomew selected and added information, including route categories useful to travellers. This particular source was published in 1904.
