Bridlington and its wider landscape shown in Bartholomew's distinctive Half-Inch mapping, reproduced as a wooden coaster.
What this map covers
Bridlington is shown within a wider mapped area that includes Sewerby, Carnaby and Flamborough, together with Model Boat Lake and Activity Lake.
About this map
This artwork is cropped from Sheet 7 · York & Scarborough, 1903, focusing the original cartography around Bridlington rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.
Bartholomew's Half-Inch maps were made as practical regional maps, keeping towns, roads, railways, and the physical landscape readable across a generous stretch of country. Its 1:126,720 scale, two miles to the inch, sits between detailed local survey mapping and much smaller national maps.
The series is especially recognisable for its layer colouring, with greens across lower ground and browns and paler tones used as elevation rises. The maps were not simple reductions of Ordnance Survey sheets: Bartholomew selected and added information, including route categories useful to travellers. This particular source was published in 1903.
