What this map covers

Cornwall National Landscape forms part of the wider mapped setting around Falmouth, with College Reservoir also within the view. It also takes in Penryn, Flushing and Budock Water.

About this map

This artwork is cropped from Sheet 37 · Cornwall, 1903, focusing the original cartography around Falmouth rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.

Bartholomew's Half-Inch maps were made as practical regional maps, keeping towns, roads, railways, and the physical landscape readable across a generous stretch of country. Its 1:126,720 scale, two miles to the inch, sits between detailed local survey mapping and much smaller national maps.

Road information and coloured relief were deliberately prominent, giving these maps a clearer travelling-map character than denser large-scale survey sheets. Complete coverage of Great Britain was achieved by 1903, and the series became closely associated with touring and cycling in the early twentieth century. This particular source was published in 1903.
