Ingleborough and its wider landscape shown in Bartholomew's distinctive Half-Inch mapping, reproduced as a mug.
What this map covers
Ingleborough is shown within a wider mapped area that includes Buckden, Horton in Ribblesdale, Arncliffe and Brackenbottom, together with Pen-y-ghent and Plover Hill.
About this map
This artwork is cropped from Sheet 6 · Harrogate, 1906, focusing the original cartography around Ingleborough rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.
At half an inch to the mile (1:126,720), it covers much more ground than the detailed Ordnance Survey county sheets while retaining a strong sense of local geography. It is a scale particularly suited to following roads and railways between places while still reading coast, rivers, uplands, and the broader shape of the landscape.
Bartholomew drew on more detailed Ordnance Survey material, selecting and supplementing information for its own cartographic purpose; complete Half-Inch coverage of Great Britain was achieved in 1903. Road information and coloured relief were deliberately prominent, giving these maps a clearer travelling-map character than denser large-scale survey sheets. This particular source was published in 1906.
