Bartholomew's distinctive Half-Inch mapping of Loch Muick, reproduced here as a wooden coaster.
What this map covers
This historic view of Loch Muick takes in Spittal of Glenmuick, with Cac Càrn Beag and Broad Cairn also part of the mapped landscape.
About this map
This artwork is cropped from Sheet 16 · Braemar and Blair Atholl, 1902, focusing the original cartography around Loch Muick rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.
Bartholomew drew on more detailed Ordnance Survey material, selecting and supplementing information for its own cartographic purpose; complete Half-Inch coverage of Great Britain was achieved in 1903. The Half-Inch series was designed to make a wide area useful to the traveller, showing how settlements, routes, and terrain fitted together rather than concentrating on property-level detail.
Look for the relationship between settlements and routes, and for the way the relief colours turn the surrounding terrain into part of the map's story. The series is especially recognisable for its layer colouring, with greens across lower ground and browns and paler tones used as elevation rises. This particular source was published in 1902.

Historic map detail varies with product size and material. Use the listing close-ups as your guide to the exact crop and level of detail.
- Colours may print slightly warmer because of the base material.
