Historic Moel Famau mapping from Bartholomew's distinctive Half-Inch mapping, reproduced as a wooden coaster.

What this map covers

This view of Moel Famau takes in Ruthin, Llanferres, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd and Gellifor, with part of Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape also within the map.

About this map

This artwork is cropped from Sheet 12 · Cheshire, 1902, focusing the original cartography around Moel Famau rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.

Complete coverage of Great Britain was achieved by 1903, and the series became closely associated with touring and cycling in the early twentieth century. Bartholomew's Half-Inch maps were made as practical regional maps, keeping towns, roads, railways, and the physical landscape readable across a generous stretch of country.

Look for the relationship between settlements and routes, and for the way the relief colours turn the surrounding terrain into part of the map's story. Road information and coloured relief were deliberately prominent, giving these maps a clearer travelling-map character than denser large-scale survey sheets. This particular source was published in 1902.

Historic map detail varies with product size and material. Use the listing close-ups as your guide to the exact crop and level of detail.

  • Colours may print slightly warmer because of the base material.
