What this map covers
Pwllheli is shown within a wider mapped area that includes Abererch, Llannor and Rhyd-y-clafdy, together with Garn Fadryn and Garn Boduan.
About this map
This artwork is cropped from Sheet 11 · North Wales, 1904, focusing the original cartography around Pwllheli rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.
It is a scale particularly suited to following roads and railways between places while still reading coast, rivers, uplands, and the broader shape of the landscape. Its 1:126,720 scale, two miles to the inch, sits between detailed local survey mapping and much smaller national maps.
The series is especially recognisable for its layer colouring, with greens across lower ground and browns and paler tones used as elevation rises. Complete coverage of Great Britain was achieved by 1903, and the series became closely associated with touring and cycling in the early twentieth century. This particular source was published in 1904.
