St Ives and its wider landscape shown in Bartholomew's distinctive Half-Inch mapping, reproduced as a wooden coaster.

What this map covers

Alongside St Ives, the mapped area includes Hayle, Uny Lelant and Phillack and the landscape around Trink Hill and Rosewall Hill.

About this map

This artwork is cropped from Sheet 37 · Cornwall, 1903, focusing the original cartography around St Ives rather than reproducing the complete historic sheet.

The Half-Inch series was designed to make a wide area useful to the traveller, showing how settlements, routes, and terrain fitted together rather than concentrating on property-level detail. Bartholomew drew on more detailed Ordnance Survey material, selecting and supplementing information for its own cartographic purpose; complete Half-Inch coverage of Great Britain was achieved in 1903.

Two miles are represented by one inch on the map, giving enough reach for a journey or region while keeping individual towns and routes legible. The interest is often in the regional pattern: how a town relates to neighbouring places, transport routes, water, and higher ground. This particular source was published in 1903.

A note on map detail

Historic map detail varies with product size and material. Use the listing close-ups as your guide to the exact crop and level of detail.

  • Colours may print slightly warmer because of the base material.
